When you’re running a one-man IT consulting company, every minute counts. You can’t afford to waste time ordering new hardware or running to customer sites in the middle of the night. This was Taylor Maneri’s story and after four years of running solo, he felt it was time to raise his game.

So, he joined SherWeb’s Partners First program and started to move his clients to the cloud. The result? Maneri has diminished his workload and increased his monthly profits by a whopping 40%!

″It’s fantastic,″he said. ″I’m extremely happy. I’m doing less work and making more money. It’s amazing!″

Maneri is the President of Axon Consulting Services, a company he runs out of Haledon, New Jersey. He’d been selling on-premises servers and solutions to his clients and was looking for a better way to do business. Maneri said he tried becoming a Microsoft partner, but found the whole process too frustrating. He discovered SherWeb on the internet one day when he was doing research on Office 365.

″I just googled Office 365 and SherWeb came up. If you’ve ever tried to use the Microsoft reseller platform, you’ll know why I went with SherWeb. I could never figure out how to navigate through Microsoft’s labyrinth of documentation. Cumulus (SherWeb’s partner portal) is a lot easier to use. I was up and running in no time.″

A Lower Price Tag

Maneri, who has about 25 clients in New Jersey and New York, began dealing with SherWeb for Office 365 about 18 months ago. He currently has 17 clients using Office 365. He said he started migrating customers to SherWeb Performance Cloud earlier this year. He’s completed three migrations so far and hopes he can eventually move all his clients to the cloud. One of the biggest advantages is the price tag. Maneri said he can provide his clients with better hardware for a fraction of the cost they’d pay for an on-premises solution. He pointed out that many of his clients were leery about paying $20,000 upfront for a new server that they’d probably have to replace in about five years. His clients can now get cloud servers for about $700 a month. If they need more resources, they can simply scale up to suit their needs.

″It’s a huge selling point. When you’re a business owner and you’re struggling to come up with new funds to buy new servers, you’re frustrated; you’re angry. This is a lot easier to swallow.″

 

Struck by Lightning

Getting technical support when you need it is another plus. Maneri said he was glad to have SherWeb’s 24/7 support team on his side a few weeks ago when his client’s building was struck by lightning and their servers crashed. The client had one physical server on-premises running Citrix XenServer. He also had two virtual machines, one domain controller and one remote desktop server. Maneri said he’d been trying to convince this client to move to the cloud and it was this incident that finally clinched the deal.

″Their network server card died, six of their thin clients died, their printer died. They lost a bunch of hardware and about two days’ worth of work. Finally, they understood what I’d been trying to tell them.″

 

Up and Running in 4 days

Maneri said once he was able to bring the on-site environment back up, he sent an email to one of SherWeb’s support technicians. Even though it was eight o’clock in the evening, he was relieved when he got an answer right away. The technician provided him with Performance Cloud servers so he could migrate his customer away from their on-premises configuration and over to the cloud. Although the process for provisioning new servers in the cloud and establishing the VPN can take about 3-5 days, Maneri said SherWeb’s cloud support team was able to complete the operation within 4 days. This included implementing the cloud servers, migrating the data and the final launch. Maneri migrated the customer to the cloud the following weekend to eliminate as much downtime as possible.

Despite the success he’s had with some of his clients, Maneri said it’s been difficult to convince everyone that the cloud is the best way to go.

″Clients are saying, ‘We feel like we’re losing control. What will happen to our data?’ I told them they’re more likely to get hacked in an on-site environment than in a datacenter. And I’ve had other clients who’ve said, ‘The only reason we’re going to the cloud is because we trust you.’ It makes me feel really good that a client has that much faith in me.″

 

Work from Anywhere

Maneri said joining SherWeb’s partner network means he spends less time on the road traveling to customer sites.

″I’m making more money to support servers and I don’t have to manage hardware. Instead of spending my time supporting customers on-site, I can sit in my office and do it from here. I actually feel like I have employees now without having to pay employees. I have individuals to help me reach my goal, which is to move all clients to the cloud so I can work from anywhere.″
