Your clients assume you\u2019re taking care of it, even if they haven\u2019t paid for any specific service. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/security-assessment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">They just assume that security is \u201cbuilt in\u201d<\/a>. Many still subscribe to the old myth that they\u2019re safe because they\u2019re too small and the bad guys aren\u2019t after them.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, bad guys are hiring genius programmers for very high salaries\u2014because they have the income from ransomware to pay the bill. As a result, attacks are becoming smarter, faster, and trickier.<\/p>\n<p>You need a coordinated defense system, a disaster recovery system, and a program to educate your clients. And on top of all that, it\u2019s a great idea to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/security-risk-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cybersecurity insurance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the best thing you can do regarding security is to get ahead of it. In other words, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-cis-controls-and-implementation-groups-but-were-afraid-to-ask\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">be prepared<\/a>. The advice is the same here as it is with other challenges: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/partner\/how-msps-can-generate-profits-with-cloud-service-bundles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">create the right bundles<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h2>What your security offering needs to consider<\/h2>\n<p>The classic problem with security is that you have to defend everything, all the time. Meanwhile, each attacker can put 100% of their attention on one specific vulnerability. With massive, distributed computing, your client sites are being bombarded with attacks everywhere, all the time.<\/p>\n<h3>Cybersecurity awareness<\/h3>\n<p>The first step is client education. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/security-awareness-training-is-no-longer-optional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Train clients to be aware<\/a>. They can\u2019t know everything about an attack, but they can be aware when something doesn\u2019t seem quite right. Constant training for clients is recommended, both online and in person at the client office.<\/p>\n<h3>Minimum baseline<\/h3>\n<p>Second, you need an <em>absolute base<\/em>. You have to have a minimum level of preparedness in order for someone to be your client. This is no longer an option. If a client won\u2019t commit to the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/zero-trust-security-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fundamental security measures<\/a>, they are more of a liability then an asset.<\/p>\n<p>Your base might include comprehensive patch management, anti-virus, anti-phishing, backup, DNS filtering, or any services you define. With the constant evolution of technology, the base might be a little broader every year. But you have to start somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Start with the combination of services and settings that make you feel comfortable. Adjust your bundle from there.<\/p>\n<h3>Disaster recovery<\/h3>\n<p>Third, you should offer a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/online-backup\/why-msps-need-veeam-disaster-recovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comprehensive disaster recovery<\/a> or business continuity solution. Prevention is great.
