For many small and medium-sized businesses, the biggest barrier to adopting AI is not interest, it is uncertainty. Customers want to know what Copilot can do in their own environment, with their own work, before making a broader commitment. Copilot in 30 gives them that opportunity through a focused, no-cost trial.
Customers do not have to make a purchase decision based only on a demonstration or feature list. They can put Copilot into the hands of 25 users, apply it to everyday work and decide whether the experience justifies a paid deployment.

What is Copilot in 30?
Copilot in 30 is a limited-time, CSP partner-led trial of Microsoft 365 Copilot Business for eligible SMB customers. It provides 25 users with Copilot Business for 30 days at no cost. The offer is available through December 31, 2026. During the trial, customers can use Copilot in the Microsoft 365 applications they already rely on, including Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
The value is not simply 30 days of access. It is the ability to answer three important questions with direct experience:
- Where does Copilot save time?
- Which employees benefit most?
- What would a wider rollout look like?
By the end of the trial, the customer should have clearer answers and a more informed purchasing decision.
Who is Copilot in 30 for?
The trial is designed for eligible SMB customers that are new to paid Copilot. It is especially useful for organizations that are interested in Copilot but want to experience its value before committing to a broader deployment.
- Customers that want to understand how Copilot works with their own content and workflows.
- Organizations with a group of users who regularly work in Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint or Excel.
- Customers looking for evidence of value before making a paid Copilot decision.
The best trial participants are users with recurring tasks and enough day-to-day Microsoft 365 activity to compare how they worked before and during the trial. The goal is not to test every Copilot capability, but rather to discover a small number of valuable, repeatable uses.
How should you identify trial customers?
The trial is intended for customers on M365 B-SKUs with fewer than 300 Microsoft 365 licenses. Start with that eligibility filter, then use ASPX to narrow the list further. The customers worth prioritizing are the ones already using the free Copilot Chat experience. They’ve already shown interest and started building AI habits, which makes Copilot in 30 a natural next step. Giving them 30 days of Microsoft 365 Copilot Business helps them experience the added value in the applications and workflows they use every day, creating a clearer and easier path to a paid license.
Using the Copilot Success Planner to guide the trial
The Copilot Success Planner is the simplest way to turn 30 days of access into a structured trial. It creates personalized weekly guidance for all 25 users and a separate roadmap for the sponsor, covering setup, checkpoints, progress tracking and the final value review.
My view is that partners should make the Copilot Success Planner part of every Copilot in 30 engagement. It gives users practical prompts across Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and agents while giving the partner a clear path from kickoff to conversion. It is free, requires no sign-in and can be shared before the trial is transacted.
A practical 30-day success plan
| Timing | Trial focus |
| Before day 1 | Choose the 25 users, confirm access, select three to five scenarios, and capture a simple baseline. |
| Days 1 to 7 | Activate licenses, run a kickoff, and get users working with Copilot in everyday tasks. |
| Days 8 to 21 | Use weekly scenarios and micro skilling to build familiarity across Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. |
| Days 22 to 27 | Collect examples, usage feedback, time savings and user observations. |
| Days 28 to 30 | Review the results and decide whether to convert, which users need paid licenses and what adoption support is required. |
How to measure success
The purpose of the trial is to make the value of Copilot easier to see and discuss. Success should be measured through a small set of practical signals.
- Participation: Did the selected users activate and use Copilot during the trial?
- Repeat use: Did users return to Copilot across multiple weeks and applications?
- Use-case value: Which tested scenarios became faster, easier or more effective?
- User confidence: Do participants understand where Copilot can help them in their daily work?
- Purchase clarity: Does the customer have enough evidence to decide who should receive paid licenses?
Why this trial matters
Copilot in 30 gives customers something that a presentation cannot: the chance to evaluate Copilot through their own work. For 30 days, 25 users can move beyond curiosity, test meaningful scenarios, and see where Copilot can improve how they communicate, create, meet and analyze information.
The most important benefit is confidence. Customers can make a paid decision based on direct experience, identify the right starting users and enter deployment with proven use cases rather than assumptions.
My recommendation for Copilot in 30
Build a first cohort now. Use ASPX to identify a small number of high-potential customers, qualify them against a consistent scorecard, and package Copilot in 30 with a defined adoption service. Instead of trying to sell the trial, focus on selling a guided 30-day path from AI curiosity to a confident business decision.
