Sherweb recently added Dropsuite, an easy-to-use secure cloud backup and email archiving solution, to its cloud marketplace. To learn more about the product and what it can offer managed service providers (MSPs) and their clients, we asked Dropsuite a few questions about why they got involved with the channel and why third-party backup solutions are a best-practice for increasing security posture.

Note: This interview has been edited for clarity and readability.

What’s Dropsuite’s elevator pitch?

Dropsuite’s cloud-based platform allows businesses to securely back up, recover/restore and protect their important business and communication data in the event of data breach or to suffice requirements for industry regulation and data privacy laws.

How did Dropsuite get started?

Understanding the benefits of having your data backed up off-premises, Dropsuite started as a cloud-based company by design, with our first product backing up websites. Knowing that email has become the most important means of communications in business, that’s where we set our sights next. It also occurred to us that companies that back up data can easily add features MSPs and companies need for other uses of their data like regulatory and privacy laws. Thus we added these features for our Archiving solution. Our next forays into backup were Microsoft 365 and recently Google Workspace. And that’s just the start!

What inspired Dropsuite to get involved with the channel?

The channel is critical to Dropsuite’s success. We constantly reach out to our partners to ask how we can update our products for their needs. This symbiotic relationship ensures the channel they can trust Dropsuite will deliver features THEY want.

What opportunities does Dropsuite present for IT providers?

  • Secure backup for email, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace with features to make backup one less item to worry about.
  • Support—whether for the product itself, support or sales and marketing, Dropsuite is here to help.
  • An easy-to-use UI, making Dropsuite simple to both manage and deploy.
  • The ability to “set and forget”, knowing your client’s data is backed up securely.
  • Archiving features to ensure compliance with regulatory and privacy laws.

What are some of Dropsuite’s benefits for end users?

  • Assurance their data is backed up securely and easy to recover should they experience a data breach.
  • Confidence their backup and retention requirements for regulatory and privacy laws compliance are met.
  • Email communications insights for business intelligence.
  • An easy-to-use UI that’s very end-user friendly.

Why is backup such an important part of cybersecurity?

As we all know, there is a significant increase in the amount and the sophistication of cyberattacks. It’s critical to have your important business data and communications backed up in the cloud where it won’t get lost to viruses or ransomware. Back up is data insurance; without it, if you get hacked you risk losing all your company’s data.

Why is a third-party backup solution necessary for business?

When it comes to your data, companies like Microsoft and Google do not guarantee retrieval of your data in the event of an outage. Additionally, they do not retain your data for more than 90 days. On top of this, first-party backup solutions don’t usually offer an easy-to-use UI with relevant dashboards, or give you the ability to customize your backup with permissions and various levels of access. On the other hand, third-party solutions like Dropsuite’s Archiving, built on top of backup, offer features to ensure your data complies with local, national and global industry regulations and privacy laws.
